Starlight's 38th Annual Gala: A Night of Glory and Community Spirit
Kansas City came alive on a splendid evening as over 400 supporters gathered to celebrate Starlight's 38th Annual Benefit Gala. Titled 'Inspiring the Next 75 Years', this year’s event not only acknowledged Starlight’s rich history but also aimed to champion its vibrant future. Guests arrived in style, ready to partake in a night filled with cheerful camaraderie and purpose.
A Record-Breaking Fundraising Effort
This year's gala set a remarkable fundraising benchmark, raising an astounding $837,125. Thanks to the unwavering commitment of generous sponsors and attendees, Starlight will continue its mission of delivering captivating live arts performances and enriching arts education for the youth in Kansas City. The leadership of Gala co-chairs Bill and Denise Bade alongside Robert and Melissa Hingula played a pivotal role in this achievement.
Red Carpet Glamour and Enchanting Performances
Guests were greeted with a glamorous red-carpet welcome in the stunning Shirley Bush Helzberg Garden of the Stars, sponsored by Seigfreid Bingham. This setting set the tone for an unforgettable night filled with emotions and exceptional talent. Dinner was served under the twinkling stars on the Jeannette and Jerome Cohen Community Stage, where performances captivated the audience. Broadway's own Marilyn Maye wowed attendees, earning a standing ovation that resonated through the crowd.
Acknowledging the Pillars of Community
The evening also included heartfelt tributes to individuals who have significantly impacted the local arts community. Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Shirley Bush Helzberg was honored for her visionary guidance of Starlight in the early 1990s, while Jan and Lee Morevitska received the 2025 Star Award for their decades of commitment to fostering the arts and supporting Starlight's mission.
Basking in the Joy of Togetherness
The celebration continued well into the night with an After Party featuring live music from Twice on Sunday in the Applause Club and Garden, generously sponsored by Beth Benedict Borders/ReeceNichols and Carbon Health. The joyful atmosphere was truly a testament to the community spirit that makes Kansas City thrive. The camaraderie and shared enthusiasm among attendees provided a warm reminder that the arts are a unifying force within the local fabric.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Starlight
This year’s Gala serves as a stepping stone toward Starlight’s next exciting chapter. As we look forward to the 39th Annual Gala, slated for October 4, 2025, with Howard & Debbi Cohen at the helm, the anticipation of creating even more magical moments for the Kansas City community remains bright.
