A Dream Realized in the Heart of KC Owner Omar Abdelmoity, a Kansas City native, drew inspiration from his time at Washington University in St. Louis, where he and his friends frequented a similar coffeehouse focused on Yemeni coffee. Abdelmoity wanted to replicate that environment upon his return to Overland Park. "I wished there was a place like Mocha Point back in Overland Park," he shares. Recognizing the gap in local night-life coffee options, he decided to take matters into his own hands and opened a second location of Mocha Point in February this year. The Unique Flavor of Yemeni Coffee Not many know that coffee cultivation has its roots in Yemen, particularly in the city of Mokha, historically a significant trade center. At Mocha Point, patrons can enjoy premium-sourced Yemeni beans, known for their distinct flavor profile infused with earthy notes. Abdelmoity explains that Yemeni beans are traditionally dried on rooftops, enhancing their unique taste. Highlighting this authenticity, Mocha Point's drinks include the flavorful Yemeni Latte, blended with cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, ginger, and honey, among other spices. "We want to reinforce the idea that Mocha Point is a coffeehouse and not just a coffee shop," states Abdelmoity, emphasizing community building over fast-paced transactions. Locals have already begun to flock to the establishment, drawn by its inviting atmosphere and late-night hours.
